Earthen Oven Page 2
April 15, 2006

This was the second weekend we had a chance to work on the oven. Work was sporatic as we were also doing some scuba dives for certification.

Here is the first door constructed in Singapore with an aluminum flashing. It looked good but did not stand up to the unattended fire. The door opening at that point was not sealed well and the flames rolled out and ended up burning the top part  of the door.

The sand mold was taken out, the fire bricks cleaned up and the outer oven sculpted a bit more by old crosscut saws.

The Telunas staff at this point had begun the very cool shed roof over the oven.

After more sculpting and cobbing on the benches, we decided to fire up the oven and see how it worked!

Once the fire died down a bit we moved the coals around the outside perimeter and experimented with a little roti from dinner that was uncooked. We also experimented with some rising cinnamon buns. Both were cooked on 10 inch pizza screens.
